Multiplayer gaming has been around for many years but has only recently become so popular that even the gaming consoles such as PlayStation and XBox are having to change their technology to include the phenomenon. Indeed, multiplayer gaming can be surprisingly addictive, particularly as it is a medium which fosters online friendships, creativity amongst players, and a sense of control over an ever-changing fantasy universe. If you haven't already been sucked in by one of the many wonderful multiplayer games that are available on the market, don't waste time! Get in there and give it a go!
In the early years of multiplayer gaming, people may have been dissuaded from taking up the games as they were portrayed as being 'geeky', 'nerdy', or for 'losers'. How the times have changed! Just about everyone plays multiplayer games nowadays, and some without even realizing they are doing it! Did you know that Nintendo DS, Wii, Playstation 3 and XBox 360 games all incorporate multiplayer technology? You can link up to the internet and play against people on the other side of the world, or you can swap player codes with your friends and compete against each other. Traditional favourites that were once limited to single players have also adapted . Take Sim City for example - the most recent version allows your cities to be populated by Sim characters created by yourself and others!
As you can see, multiplayer gaming is far from being a stale or elitist phenomenon, in fact some would argue that it is the way of the future for all gaming fans.
